Places We Are Found

I am a part of all that I have met (Tennyson, Ulysses)
This body of work explores the urban and coastal landscapes of Newfoundland through a lens of distance and coherence. Utilizing drone imagery and aeronautical charts as foundational references, I portray a holistic overview of the environment, translating the complexity of a vast landscape into structured, painterly compositions. Having returned to a former home after a period of absence, these works function as a highlighting of the land. By focusing on the recurring details of place that define daily life, the paintings investigate the tension between a seemingly static environment and the inevitable shifts of time and memory. My work is executed with palette knives to emphasize the physical and transformative nature of the St. John’s terrain.
