Where Lights Meet (2021)

This series explores the landscape through an expansive, aerial perspective. I aim to capture the structural complexity of the modern environment, focusing on the way bridges, highways, and arterial roads span the breadth of a city. These "portraits of civilization" utilize a high vantage point to emphasize the interconnectedness of urban life and the vast scale of human infrastructure.

Central to this body of work is an investigation of transience and light. Often set during the transition of twilight, my paintings use the movement of cars and the activation of city lights to mark the passage of time. Through a disciplined application of oil paint with palette knives, I balance a technical appreciation for engineering with an optimistic view of human cooperation. The resulting compositions explore the power of perspective, finding coherence in the wide-angle view of the mechanical and natural world.
